T.L. Shively ~Writer of the Week~

T.L. Shively is a writer and A YA Fantasy author, although one of her readers informed her that she wasn’t just a young adult fantasy author cause she wasn’t a young adult and she loved her books.

Let’s hear her journey in her words!

1. Please Describe T.L. Shively:

Answer: When I describe myself the first thing that comes to mind is that I am a mother and wife cause family is the most important thing to me. But along with being a wife to a very supportive husband and three very unique boys I also have a very extensive imagination that is awesome except when the lights go out and it is on overdrive.

I love writing (I know as if you didn’t know), reading, gaming, drawing, crocheting, and learning new things. To me, a day isn’t complete if you haven’t learned anything new and many times what I learn ends up in my writings. I love arts of all kinds and even love singing even though I sound worse than a banshee, which is why I prefer to sing when no one is around and same with dancing.

2. Please Describe your skills:

Answer: Right now I am writing a YA Fantasy series about teenage Guardians tasked with protecting the creatures of Sanctuary from the shadow master’s creatures that want to drain their magical essence for their master. This series follows the Guardians as they learn their new powers, learn to master their magical crystal crims and learn more about themselves with each story.

3. What inspired to pursue your passion?

Answer: I have always loved reading and writing, when I was younger I would create my own stories in my head to entertain myself before trying to put them on paper. I can’t put it down to any actual book, movie or even cartoon that inspired me cause they were all wonderful inspirations but I can say the one that stands the most in my memory is She-Ra and He-man from my younger days.

4. What are the difficulties you faced and how did you overcome?

Answer: My biggest difficulty I faced is self-doubt. I was lucky though to have a husband that was very supportive after I finally told him what I was doing. He believed in me even when I didn’t. I can’t say that I have completely overcome all my self-doubts but I keep moving forward. When I start to feel as if I can’t do this I step back and think of all the positive things that have happened to me, the positive words that have been said to me and I move forward. Not everyone is going to like what I write but then again not everyone likes what Stephen King, Anne Rice or even J.K. Rowling writes.  I try to keep everything in perspective although sometimes that isn’t the easiest thing to do.

5. Your message to the audience/beginners?

Answer:  Never give up!
